Captured Viking!

In the park outside of Liljevalchs Vårsalong in Stockholm stands this viking in chains.

Inside is the annual spring show open for anyone to submit – amateurs, pros, young and old. It is one of the most popular shows of the year in Stockholm. It is also an annual source of inspiration for me and my garden art, and this year was no exception. Everything I do is a collage or mash-up of ideas and impressions from these and many other sources.

A few examples:

Mosquito by Tord Larsson in scrap iron. But then I have enough mosquitoes in the garden already. Something maybe to scare them away instead.

Pinata by Mikael Larsson made with polyurethane foam and paint. Not appropriate for an ecological garden, but perhaps I can find a substitute material.

This is called ‘where lies the soul’ by Malin Blom in textile.

‘In Spite’ by Mattias Härenstam in wood.

This day, immersed in Stockholm’s art scene, was a much needed break from the reading, koji making and carpentry here in the country.
