Toji Temple in Kyoto has a flea market the 21st of every month.
We managed to get it in the last full day of our trip.
Here, piles of wakame seaweed and fish
Antiques, garden art and stuff
It took us all day just to go around and look at everything. In the end we bought quite little – we had gotten almost everything we wanted already, and the prices were the same or higher than we had found in shops earlier.
Our bags are already full anyway.
Wonderful market and a lovely temple.
It was bigger, better and more splendid than what I remember from 40 years ago.
I never got to Toji, even though it was quite near my hotel. Did you see Fushimi Inari? http://backpackerlee.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/fushimi-inari-shrine/
Toji was was splendid and the market was bigger than I expected. Fushimi was also much bigger than expected, especially if you include the Tori hike to the top of the mountain. We took all day.
