This morning I saw some tell tail tracks in the garden, and sure enough, I found they had done some damage. A bed of flowers got their tops niptboff and a bed of spinach got the leaves eaten. I was going to pick them today for the market tommorow.
I covered them and hope they will make a come back for later.
And then there is plenty of mangold and other stuff in the fenced of area and lettuce under cover to pick for the market.
We’ve had our pwn run-ins with the local deer, rabbit and now it seems raccoon dog populations. A two-meter-high fence was enough to keep the deer away and once we located & closed all the tiny gaps, also the rabbits were blocked out. Lately though, we’ve had a raccoon dog spotted around the property and damage to hostas where whole leaf & stem are torn off the plant. I’m thinking it’s due to the RD searching for slugs & snails to eat. But that’s only a hypothesis, as I’ve not actually seen it in our yard now that the entire boundary is fenced. I’m sorry about your losses – better luck in the future :)
Have a great weekend!
