It’s been wet, windy and cold. Not very much fun in the garden.

It’s much more conducive to staying indoors and reading.

And drying out like these mushrooms. Two or three kinds of chanterelle picked this weekend.

As I’ve mentioned before, we’ve had a lot of rain this year. Not only is the garden growing like crazy, the berries and mushrooms in the woods are too, like never before. It rained a lot this morning, so we went blueberry picking when it stopped.

Wild blueberries are my favorite. These are actially Vaccinium myrtillus and in english called bilberry, but to us they are blåbär (blueberries). Great in pies, cakes, jams, smoothies, ice cream and just about any dessert they come complete with a lot of antioxidants.

There were a lot of lingonberries too, but they need to ripen a few weeks more.

Golden chanterelles are in abundance this year too of course.

It didn’t take long to pick this. A little while longer the bucket was full. Now comes the follow through part of cleaning and preserving them. We usually freeze the berries and dry the chantarelles.
