Everyone is complaining about the cold damp weather. I don’t mind it, but it did put a stop to our plans to wander in the Finnish mountains. Back at the North Sweden homestead It was cold too, but chopping wood sure warms you up.

And it sure is nice the to keep the big caldron of water warm and the sauna in the bastu (bath cabin) fired up.

The sun has come out now, and we are feeling much better, and hoping for some more midnight sun this evening before we head south again tomorrow – back to the garden.

We took a trip to the mountains of northern Finland to do some wandering, but we got as far as the visitors center and took this picture.

It was so cold, cloudy and rainy that we chickened out and took in at the Crazy Reindeer Hotel in Levi instead. They had a sauna in every room and a grand breakfast!

That may have been just as well, as my hip joints are not what they used to be. We had a wonderful time anyway, testing our Finnish etc.

I can’t help but think of Finland on their independence day today and share this picture I found on facebook.

It is so amazing that they have managed to not get gobbled up by Sweden, Russia or Germany. They are a special people with a strange language and culture that is a great inspiration to me and my garden.
