For the market yesterday
Today
The garden partybis a good ocassion to do some extra weeding. One crop circle is looking spiffy anyway.
Perhaps the last flowers from our garden this year.
Equinox Greetings!
We almost forgot the equinox enjoying all the sun, fog, warmth, and smog in Southern California. Yesterday morning I must have looked odd observing and smelling the exotic flowers along the street outside our motel, so much so that a passing sheriff stopped and asked ‘Are you OK?’.
Even the fire hydrants are exotic here.
We spent the morning driving along the coast highway stopping at a couple of surfing paradises. Then the afternoon at the fabulous Balboa Park in San Diego where my battery ran out, so no pictures.
And back home the snow has been flying the last three days.
Our favorite market of the year is the Wik Castle Harvest Market.
But first we spend friday evening and saturday harvesting, baking and preparing.
The trailer and car are loaded up.
This year the weather was fabulous both for harvesting and the market. There were more market goers then ever and we sold very well. We had almost nothing left to take home, just a bunch of empty containers.
Our most colorful section was probably the pumpkins. We specialize in japanese pumpkins – ichi kuri and hokkari – and have quite few asian costomers. Swedes are still a bit sceptical.
We sell a wide variety of all the vegetables that grow here. We also sell flowers arranged in bouquets, homemade apple cakes, cinnamon buns and applesauce as well as homemade sauerkraut, cucumber pickles, and miso. All sold well.
