The temperature was dropping alarmingly last night, so at midnight I figured I had better go out and cover the tomatoes at least.

Luckily, no frost! But very close to freezing. Everything survived including the pumpkins and maize not covered.

Winter has definitely arrived. It was minus 18 degrees centigrade this morning. I’m very glad I got all my digging done in time. Now the garden will go into a rest period until the weather warms up again in march/april next year.

My next main winter project will be to make a couple of cabage protection cages and to make a large batch of lactic pickled carrots. More on that later.

Not really inspired by Christo, I cover my incomplete greenhouse walls with boards, rugs and plastic tarps to keep them dry and warm for the winter.

The fresh cement does not fare well in the oscillating damp and freezing weather of the swedish winter, so this covering is neccessary. After every storm I have to check the damage to the tarps and reinforce them. In the spring I’ll open it up and start working on it again.

Some may think this is art too.
