Home again after a good vacation. The garden is in very good shape.
After 10 days of vacation up north, I’m back home again, and the garden looks like it’s in good shape.
The neighbor lady watered the tomatoes.
It rained a couple of times the first 2 days, so the rest of the garden is not as dry as it looks.
The weather has turned hot (nearly 30 degrees), so after a morning of mowing, raking, mulching and weeding neglected areas, I’m stretched out for a lazy afternoon. Maybe more gardening in the evening.
I haven’t made sourdough bread for about 2 months. The starter was languishing in the refrigerator and needed to be revitalized, so I added some rye flour, warm water and let it grow in a warm corner of the kitchen. After a day it was bubbling.
I used 1 deciliter of it to make sourdough bread – the first for a long time. It turned out excellent.
In the meantime the garden is drying and warming up. I’ve started tilling, making beds and sowing.
The garden is looking surprisingly good in spite of the very dry summer.
I realized that I haven’t reported on the vegetable garden for some time, so here is a cavalcade of pictures from this morning.
This looks like a bunch of flowers, but there are carrots, onions, parsley and more in there too.
Spinach coming up where lettuce has long since been harvested.
Sweatpeas – there are 4 kinds of peas and 3 kinds of beans.
Cucumbers – there are a lot more hiding in there.
Well, this is enough for today. I’ll send the other half of the cavalcade tomorrow.
The second annual music fest in Timogarden went unbelievably smoothly. Lots of people helped, lots of friends came, lots of music all afternoon and evening.
Joel and Agnes started it out.
The dance floor got initiated, but It obviously needs to be made bigger next winter.
A lot of hungry people filled the food tent early.
Second and third hand was a main attraction.
As the sun went down, the clouds started clearing.
And the moon, near full, came out shrouded in scattered clouds. Alas no picture. Music continued until the wee hours of the morning.
This could represent the morning after.
But everyone was in good shape and even better spirits. The sleep over crowd stuck around for breakfast as well as lunch in the garden for a beautiful day after. And again not a plant, bush or tree were damaged.
The music in the garden went smoothly. No incedents were reported apart from a couple trip-ups in the dark. It didn’t rain until just after the last band played. The crowd was a few more than what we had expected and quite a few of our neighbors showed up. And the music was fantastic. It was a mix of rock and folk music with a bit of psychedelics mixed in.
An afternoon session. I wasn’t able to get any night pictures.
Breakfast in the grey for the overnighters. The sun came out soon, contrary to the weather reports. Then there was a very nice mess to clean up. Not a single tree, shrub or bush was injured.
This is a picture taken in the fall of 2010.
This is a picture taken about a year and a half ago with a less than good camera.
