We made an excursion to the Peony Man. He is a retired university professor with a garden deep in the forests of northern Uppland. He grows many perennials, some rare.

He is most famous for his more than one hundred types of Paeonia which he grows himself from seed. He didn’t have the one I was looking for (the yellow Paeonia mlokosewitschii). It was sold out for the season. I couldn’t however resist buying a couple of other varieties as well as some perennials.

Not far from here lies Alsta Trädgårdar. It has been a source of inspiration for me ever since Per and Margareta bought the run down garden with greenhouses badly in need of repair.

Over the years they have turned the place into a culture center within a well developed garden.

In the picture above you see a small park inside the large main greenhouse.

Another greenhouse has an art gallery under a great canopy of grape vines and other plants. Concerts and theatre are also performed here.

They have a wonderful coffee shop with home made pastries and sandwiches.

On top of all that they have a good supply of plants, seeds and gardening products for sale.
